FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

Are classes open to students who go to other schools, since classes are held at Burgundy Farm school?

ACT students come from around Northern Virginia, Maryland, and DC. Since Burgundy students have drama during the school day, very few attend our Saturday classes.

Q.

Can parents stay with their children in the class?

We encourage parents to tell their children goodbye after walking them into the first class, knowing this can be hard for some little stars. Our instructors and class assistants are experienced easing children into activities to help them adjust, and parents are invited to sit and read nearby in the building, go for a walk, or go to a nearby coffee shop.

Q.

My child has “stage fright” or is shy. Do they still have to perform?

Our goal is that every student’s confidence grows throughout the class session, and that they will be able to go onstage with their classmates. In unusual circumstances, a child may be able to participate as part of the group, and not speak individually, but we hope they’ll be willing to try!

Q.

Can grandparents or family members pay for our child’s classes?

Yes! ACT classes make a great holiday or birthday gift! They can give one of our new gift cards ($50, $100, or $200) towards full or partial payment of a class session.

A.

Q.

Does ACT offer need-based scholarships to cover the cost of a class?

We’re happy to offer scholarships to families that need a bit of financial support. Please email roberta@ACTheatre.com to request a scholarship.

A.

Q.

My child reads at a higher grade level/is in advanced classes. Can they enroll with older students?

We ask that students enroll in classes that include their age group, because emotional and creative maturity aren’t the same as reading ability. We make some exceptions after speaking with instructors.

A.

Q.

Do students perform onstage?

Each of our sessions culminates in a short, sweet presentation onstage for families from each class.

A.

Q.

Acting and theatre are new to our child. Can we take a “demo class” to see if they like it?

We offer registration as a Drop In student ($25) for the first class for those children who haven’t tried acting before, then families can register for the rest of the (prorated) session when they see it’s a good fit.

A.

Q.

Is there a way to break up the payments instead of paying for the whole class or camp fee at once?

We offer a payment plan on the registration page, and automatic reminders are sent when subsequent payments are due. Unfortunately we do not handle our registration for camps at the Burgundy Farm location, so payment plans aren’t available for those camps. But we do have a payment plan for EHS camps.

A.

Q.

Can we use the Burgundy playground before or after class?

All registered families are welcome to use the designated playground area before/after classes on Saturdays. We are not permitted to go beyond the playground area onto campus.
