About Alexandria Children's Theatre
A.C.T. founder and Program Director Roberta Masters-Cullen has been teaching children’s acting classes in the Alexandria area for fourteen years, starting with the after school program at Mount Vernon Community School. At the Little Theatre of Alexandria she helped launch the summer camp program eleven years ago, and more than a thousand children have made their first appearance onstage with her support. For the past seven years Roberta has been teaching drama at Burgundy Farm Country Day School. Her work at Burgundy includes assisting with middle school productions, seventeen shows to date. Roberta is a member of the Screen Actors Guild, is a former TV news anchor, and does some work as a voiceover artist for radio and television projects.
Burgundy Farm Country Day School’s new fine arts building presents a wonderful opportunity for young actors to explore theatre in a setting where children are valued and encouraged to express themselves freely. ACT programs allow students to spend time onstage at every class, facilitating a comfort level with performing from a young age. Older students who develop an interest in “tech” behind the scenes can eventually help with sound and lighting design using Burgundy’s state-of-the-art equipment.
